The first Shane Monahan Designs portrait of 2022 is that of Billy Twelvetrees.

Shane Monahan and Billy Twelvetrees both signed for Gloucester rugby in 2012 and played 3 great years together at the club. Shane has since retired from the game of rugby but Billy remained and has gone on to have one of the most impressive and consistent careers of any player that has had the privilege of wearing the cherry & white jersey.

Whilst playing for his previous club Leicester Tigers, Billy was nicknamed '36' based on the Irish-accented pronunciation of Twelvetrees by then club captain Irishman Geordan Murphy which sounded like "twelve threes", or 36.

Seeing as the artist Shane Monahan is also Irish with the same Irish accent he saw fit to call this particular portrait 36! 

Billy has devoted his professional rugby career to Gloucester Rugby since 2012

During his 10 years at Kingsholm he has made over 200 appearances and is known for his speed, innovative play and goal kicking. Billy has also achieved international rugby status earning 22 caps for England and also toured Australia with the British & Irish lions in 2013.

2022 is Billy's 10th season at the club and his testimonial year. Shane saw this as a great opportunity to paint his old team mate and his legendary hair.
