Freedom! 30th Anniversary of Braveheart Portrait of William Wallace (Mel Gibson)

2025 marks the 30th anniversary of the Hollywood blockbuster Braveheart. Braveheart a film directed and produced by the legendary Mel Gibson who also portrays the movie lead, William Wallace. William Wallace was a Scottish warrior who fought in the first war of Scottish independence against King Edward I of England.

This portrait captures William Wallace portrayed by actor Mel Gibson with his imposing Claymore sword on the field of battle. This is a limited edition run of 30 prints. 

The inspiration for this portrait comes from a local connection. The majority of the film was shot in Ireland with key scenes being shot in Trim castle, county Meath, Ireland. As Trim is not too far from where I live (Shane Monahan) when I heard that Mel Gibson would be attending the 30th anniversary celebration in the town I thought it would be a great idea to paint a portrait of William Wallace. I am a big fan of the movie and Mel both as an actor and director, the plan was to hopefully meet Mel, gift him the portrait and get a signature for my own collection.

1 out of 2 is not bad, what I mean by this is I'm delighted to say I did get Mel's signature on my print and it is an honour to say he kept the 1st edition of the print for himself and his collection. Unfortunately however the signature was attained through a third party and I did not get the chance to meet Mel and say hello myself (It's a long story). I am sure I will get to meet him again in the future.

This print in question is now available to purchase on my website. To signify the 30th anniversary of Braveheart this is a print run of only 30 prints. Print 1 of 30 now belongs to Mel and print 30 of 30 belongs to me.
